'The spirit of the void' is a phrase used by Morihei Ueshiba Sensei and it refers to harmonising our ki with that of our partner and to the connection between shite and uke. 'The spirit of the void' is created by changes in the rotation of the hips and the movement of our centre. The ability to absorb our partner's power depends on the changes in the flow of ki. This is the ultimate in aikido technique. The 'spirit of the void' can be created within the basic techniques of Yoshinkan Aikido and this video takes a practical look at how this can be done (video in Japanese only.)
