Avoiding injury is only one reason why we practise the correct way to take ukemi. Other physical benefits include increased strength; flexibility and balance. Taking ukemi also increases our sensitivity and awareness as well as our ability to read and harmonise with our partner. Studying the correct form of ukemi also improves our shite - learning about the effect a technique should have on our partner's body leads to a deeper understanding of that technique.
